Using the UK Immigration ID Check App

The UK Immigration ID Check app offers a convenient way for applicants to verify their identity using their mobile devices, eliminating the need for in-person biometrics appointments.

To be eligible for using the ID Check app as an alternative to visiting a UKVCAS service point, you must meet the following criteria:

- You must be applying for your visa while residing within the UK.

- You must have previously submitted your biometrics in a prior UKVI application.

Step-by-step guide to using the ID Check app:

Start Your Visa Application Online

Before using the ID Check app, initiate your visa application and create your UKVI account on GOV.UK. The app will only function once you've commenced your application online.

Download the App

Upon starting your visa application and if you meet the eligibility criteria, you will receive an email from UKVCAS containing a link to download the app.

Alternatively, you can access the app by scanning the QR code provided on the GOV.UK website: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/using-the-uk-immigration-id-check-app.

Connect the App

Open the app and select 'QR code' as your connection method. Scan the QR code provided, holding your device in front of it until the code is recognized. Alternatively, use the connection code.

Scan Your Document

Ensure that your document can be read by the app. Look for the symbol indicating the presence of a biometric chip.

Scan Your Passport

Use your phone's camera to capture a photo of the photo page of your passport. The entire page, including the two lines of numbers and letters at the bottom, should be within the frame. Ensure that your camera is focused on the text.

Scan Your BRP

Capture an image of the back of your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) using your phone's camera. Make sure the full card, including the three lines of numbers and letters at the bottom, is within the frame. You'll then be prompted to take a picture of the front of the card.

Check Your Document's Information

Remove any covers or cases from your document and phone. Tap the 'check now' button in the app to initiate the document verification process. Place your phone on top of your document as directed by the app. You'll hear a beep when the app recognizes your document. Move your phone as necessary until the app successfully identifies the chip, which is located differently on various documents. For BRPs, the chip is usually on the back.

When the app displays 'information checked,' do not move your phone until the check is complete.

Issues with the app

If you encounter any issues during the process, you can opt for an alternative identity verification method. This may involve booking an appointment at a Visa Application Centre (VAC) or a UK Visa and Citizenship Application Services (UKVCAS) service point.

Please note that the app is available only in English.
