Important Updates: UK Immigration Changes 2026, Global Talent Endorsements and Our Pricing

UK Immigration Changes: Policy Is Tightening Across All Routes

The UK’s approach to overseas workers has shifted significantly in early 2026.

Here are the key changes affecting visa applicants:

English Language Requirements Raised (Effective 26 March 2027)

All new applicants for Skilled Worker, Scale-up, HPI, and some settlement routes must demonstrate B2 English (A-level standard), up from B1 (GCSE level). Current visa holders extending under the same route are exempt from re-testing.

Visa Brake on Four Countries (Effective 26 March 2026)

The UK has blocked study visas for nationals of Afghanistan, Cameroon, Myanmar, and Sudan, and Skilled Worker visas for Afghan nationals, due to high rates of asylum claims from legal visa routes.

Refugee Protection Reduced (Effective 2 March 2026)

Asylum granted on or after 2 March 2026 is now valid for 30 months (down from 5 years), except for unaccompanied children who retain 5-year grants.

Settlement Changes Coming (Consultation Closed 12 February 2026)

The government’s “earned settlement” proposals aim to extend the qualifying period for ILR from 5 to 10 years for most sponsored work routes – and for some up to 15, with a points-based framework that can add or reduce time based on circumstances. Final rules expected in April 2026.

Tier 1 Investor Extension Deadline (17 February 2026)

This was the final deadline to extend Tier 1 (Investor) visas. The settlement-only window closes 17 February 2028.

ETA Enforcement (Effective 25 February 2026)

Airlines and ferry operators now block visa-free travelers without an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before boarding. Most visa-free nationals, including US, Canadian, Australian and EU citizens, require an ETA.

Global Talent Endorsements Are Getting Stricter

If you’re applying for Global Talent in digital technology, be aware: endorsement standards have tightened significantly.

Tech Nation and other endorsing bodies are conducting assessments more strictly than in previous years. Cases that would have been approved 12-18 months ago are now being refused.

Endorsing bodies are scrutinising evidence more carefully, questioning media credibility more aggressively.

They now require clearer proof of personal contribution and independent recognition.

The cyclical pattern most applicants don’t know about:

Most people don’t realise that Global Talent endorsements (particularly Tech Nation’s digital technology endorsements) come in waves.

For more than a couple of years now, we’ve observed cyclical patterns:

A few months of relatively lenient assessments,

Followed by 3 months of strict assessments = more refusals

Your case can land in a ‘strict window’ and get rejected even with a bulletproof application.

This is less about the quality of your evidence, it’s about timing and the internal assessment climate at the moment your case is reviewed.

For you, this means:

  • Stronger evidence is now table stakes, not a competitive advantage
  • Media recognition must be unquestionably editorial and independent
  • Personal contribution must be explicitly documented: caseworkers won’t bother guessing anything
  • Reference letters need to be specific, detailed and from credible senior figures

If you’re planning to apply, prepare as if you’re applying during a strict window.

Assume the worst-case assessment standards and build your case accordingly.
